Southern Heritage has now deleted from their FACEBOOK page all posts where people have complained about their horrible treatment and encounters from HEATH BOWEN as well as blocking people from posting the disgusting truths and pictures of their defacing and defiling our loved ones graves. Absolutely wrong what you have done Southern Heritage Funeral Home & Cemetery!!!!! You have dumped and discarded and broken families memories, hearts, sacred gifts and letters and plaques, crosses, statues that have been at loved one’s graves for DECADES!!! Bull to your heartless actions and your cold disrespectful responses. You have turned a tranquil area into complete and utter chaos as loved ones scramble through your dumpster and search through broken pieces of memories discarded like trash on the grounds. Years of people getting a slight glimpse of joy laying a personal heartfelt gift for their love ones and you have the nerve to say it must fit in the always broken tiny and half the time missing “vase”?!?!?! Disgraceful!! You have caused such mental heartache and anguish to so many and so thankful to have the pictures, posts and responses from so many families that feel the exact same way as I do. HEATH BOWEN, your responses to the cries of all those who have been able to talk to you has been NOTHING except we will try to do a better job NEXT TIME!!!Seriously!!! Heartless!! To see crosses with a babies face and name on it, mothers and daughters names, grandfathers and fathers and sons and brothers names, plaques with loved ones picture on it, baseballs with messages written on them by a child for their brother, trucks, angels, baby-dolls, blessed statues, American Flags , the list is endless of all the beloved remembrances that YOU TRASHED into a dumpster AND SCATTERED all over the grounds across a decayed and broken fence. And to now have a sign up for “Decoration Day”….why would anyone trust to place anything out for their loved ones?? You already threatened to have it removed!!!! I hope and pray people choose another place to lay their loved ones to rest as Southern Heritage Funeral Home and Cemetery has become an absolute nightmare.

They are defacing our loved ones graves and throwing away belongings. Absolutely disgusting and unprofessional behavior. No warning. No notice. No letters. No emails. Just one sign that’s not very noticeable. It’s the end of April and we are only just NOW finding out about this so clearly that sign did nothing! They threw everyone’s stuff away because of new management. I’ve been going here for over 20 years for families burials and this is the only time in two decades I can ever think of this place being horrible and the only reason is the person in charge who just did all of this. I’ve never once looked at a deceased persons grave and thought something didn’t belong there… No one is going to come here when they find out you disrespect them by throwing out personal property because they failed to read the “contract” while BURYING A LOVED ONE. We’ve got dozens of family members buried here. I’ll be sure everyone hears about this and you’ll be lucky if it doesn’t end up on social media with the countless pictures we have!

Six years ago we held my mother’s service here and everything was great. We recently had my father’s service and our level of expectation was not met the same unfortunately. Perhaps our director was newer and still learning? In our planning meeting, we were told about a new way of set up inside the chapel using round tables for your guest to sit at for the service. We did not care for this, as we felt it gave a reception appearance verses a memorial service. We stated we wanted it the classic way of using pews in the chapel. When we arrived on the day of service, we see the chapel is sat with folding chairs. It would have been nice to have been given a warning that the funeral home no longer has the pews. The slide show was messed up, only showing 6 pictures, when there were over 100 sent in. We had to find our director and bring that to her attention before it was fixed. The song we wanted played to conclude the service never started. Our guest were left confused on whether they stand to exit and it made for an awkward silence. We had to find someone to tell them to please play the song. Because of the lapse in time from the service to the graveside, we chose to use the caterer offered through the funeral home and eat in a different room at the facility. In the planning meeting, we paid to have extra food/drink provided for our friends and family, many from out of town. We noticed the drinks were empty but saw no one around checking in on the setup. We tried to find our director but could not, so just told a staff member. We finally had someone from the catering company come out to refill the drink pitchers. By then, we noticed our food inventory was very low and still had several people in line to make a plate. We questioned the amount of food brought by the caterer and learned they were unaware of the additional food we had added and paid for. They missed that being written on their order form. The display table that was setup was beautiful. They added many plaques and personal touches of decor making it special to my fathers interest and hobbies and to that of the Marines. In conclusion, everything rounded out fine and the day was done, but when you are paying as much as you are for a service for a lost loved one, you just expect the talked about details from planning to go as expected and not left finding someone during the moment to fix the issue.
