One of the hardest things to do is bury a loved one and add COVID restrictions and precautions, and it's worse! BUT, Laura and Highland Park Funeral Home made my grandmother's transition beautifully seamless. Laura and the staff were available whenever we had questions or sit with us as we processed the loss and funeral planning. The compassion, care, empathy, and professionalism was truly unmatched. The funeral planning was made easy (easier), and my grandmother's funeral was beautiful. When she was laid to rest, she looked as if she was sleeping. This review is certainly not a review anyone ever wants to write, but if you find yourself losing a loved one, Laura and Highland are both great to have in your corner.

Highland park is one of if not the most budget friendly funeral home that does cremations in KCK. They're always quick to answer the phone and friendly, they're happy to answer questions over the phone or invite you in during operating hours to sit down and discuss. I took care of my mother and when she came home on hospice I started looking for a funeral home to fullfill her wishes and at a price point I could afford. I spoke with keeley who was wonderful, I made an appointment with her to come in and discuss my mom's final wishes and see if they could fullfill them after several other places not being able to. I left feeling grateful of the interaction and chose them for my mom. When my mom passed they were very friendly and came within a few hours as requested so we would have time with my mother before she was gone. They were very kind and warm when picking her up. The hallway to get her out of her room was kind of awkward so they couldn't grt the gourney in and opted for a body board. They respected her and our family by walking us through what they were doing and wrapped her gently in a white sheet with a pillow before strapping her on. We expected a body bag from there but instead they had a velvet cover for her. It was a good experience given the circumstances and I don't have any complaints. I met with them the following Monday to discuss again, sign the authorizations, etc. It took about a week from her being picked up for her to be cremated. I have no complaints beyond a major miscommunication and hope that someone reading this may find an answer or that highland park will be a bit more through communicating with others so they aren't left feeling the way I am. I chose highland park as they told me yes, my mother could be cremated in jewerly. I asked multiple times, I asked if any materials were off limits and I was told no. I expressed how important it was to my mother and myself that she not go into the Crematory without her jewerly as she wore jewerly every day of her life even while sick in the hospital. She did not want to go into the afterlife "naked" or into the "Crematory naked". I asked again after she was gone if she would be cremated with them and was told yes. I signed the waver about anything metal in the Crematory being unrecoverable and was relieved my mother's last wish was being respected and trusted highland park with this. I picked my mom up on Wednesday and opened the box that night. Upon opening the box there was a bag of her jewelry. Her necklace she picked out for her cremation, the bracelet and rings I had picked were inside. Immediately my heart sank and I feel as though I betrayed my mother telling her yes when the reality was no. I am feeling lied to and disappointed, I expressed how important this was and was reassured it was okay only for it not to be.. it is too late to fix it, she's already been cremated. It would have been nice had I received a call that it wasn't okay any longer, that the materials needed to change or even a call about it or mention when I picked her up. Instead I was blindsided. I called Thursday about it and was told the items "stayed with her" but that doesn't make it any better. I left the funeral home feeling great but now am mourning all over again

Kealy McCombs and her staff offer exceptional service. This is my second time working with them. I live in New Jersey, yet their service is liken to someone who lives in the neighborhood. Although I could not come into Kansas City, they were prompt, professional and compassionate. SERVICE! That describes them in all they do. My love ones were well taken care of and I suggest, I recommend your love ones to their care.
