I called to inquire about hosting funeral services for a very close friend who just died young, and very tragically. George Doherty said that having her cremated elsewhere and hosting the service at their funeral home “is like buying a piece of steak and bringing it to a restaurant saying ‘here, cook this.‘“ I started sobbing so hard I had to hang up. I cannot fathom a funeral director speaking to grieving loved ones that way. It was easily the meanest, most painful thing anyone has ever said to me, and I am so thankful her husband isn’t the one who called. I’m a local business owner. I understand that business need to profit, and I value the time and input of professionals in other fields. However, that was truly heartless and disgusting. He made it clear that they aren’t in this industry because they care about people. It’s just about money to them.
