Pros: -transparent (pricing, timing, what’s possible) -no pressure, no upselling -highly professional -excellent communication -compassionate, patient, flexible with us in our grief -highly knowledgeable (what do we do next, what happens to our loved one, what do other people do, what do I do during the memorial right now, etc) -good space layout for memorial service Cons: -some of the initial selection was a little limited for our cultural background, but Andrew Pickering quickly found other sources that matched and worked well for us. Full review: I lost my father at the beginning of February 2023. Pickering and Son took good care of him, and our entire experience was marked by compassion, flexibility, and excellent communication. We hadn't made plans with any funeral home before my dad passed, but Andrew arrived in the morning to take care of him. He patiently explained exactly what all needed to happen next, and was crystal clear about what was possible or not at that moment. When we sat down with him a couple of days later, he walked us through all the options, and there was absolutely no pressure or upselling. By the end of the conversation, he had already gotten a better idea of what might suit us, and could provide more tailored recommendations, and reminded us that if there was any option that didn't quite suit us, he could find something better. He was completely transparent about timing, cost, and what was possible, and gave us a reasonable amount of time to think over, discuss, and decide the details. When some of the options didn't quite suit us, he found another vendor and worked with them to make sure everything was set in time. I'm sure they see this from every family, every week, but they still held compassion for our grief. Andrew worked with us to have a private viewing before the memorial service. Whenever it was clear that we didn't want to spend time and energy on a particular detail, he would take care of it for us (they designed a beautiful memorial candle for us) or suggest a different way to do things. He accommodated our cultural practices and asked good questions to make sure that he understood correctly. In terms of the funeral itself, they took very good, respectful care of my father: he looked as if he was sleeping. The layout of the space works well, and easily accommodated mourners (we had around 30-40 with plenty of space left). There are multiple stands for flowers, and a podium. When there was a miscommunication with the flower arrangements the morning of the service, Andrew called the flower shop to fix it in time. When I found myself unsure at one point during the service on how to proceed, he provided advice on what I could do next. He and his staff conformed to our expectations on the day of the service as well. When we had an issue with payment, he extended us grace, and worked with us to solve the problem. It would have been a hard enough day anyway, but we already knew what to expect because Andrew had been so clear in his communications, and he and his staff worked to smooth out any bumps in the road. I highly recommend this funeral home.
