One of the oldest but certainly the most important of cemeteries of Hawaii dating to 1844. The most visited gravesite..? Joseph Campbell-mythologist, scholar, writer!! The 2nd most..? Alexander J Cartwright -founder of modern baseball!

It started on a good note the lady on the other line answered after a few rings. We had just gotten notice the day before monday that my husband's son had passes away. She said im sorry for your loss. She then proceeded to answer any question I had. If she didn't know the answer she ask another person who was nearby. So I said I would need to go and speak with my husband first and would call back the next day Tuesday. She said that's fine and let us know what the decision would be. After talking over with my husband we agreed on one of the services they offered. I would call the next morning as I had a few more questions. First call nobody answered and no answer machine. 2nd call same thing. Finally after a third call someone answers the line. They said they would have the lady I talked to call me back shortly. As time went on during the day I was getting worried. I started calling again and again with no luck and no answering machine. I was getting worried and stress. As they were in our price range. By the end of my work I called 1 more time and finally got someone to pick up the phone but they hung up on me when I was talking. That was the last straw. I called another mortuary and got a friendly person who explained to me the whole process of cremation she even explained each step that woukd be involved. She even gave suggestion on how to save money. It is now Thursday and no call back. I was not going chase then down over the phone. So I would think twice about this mortuary. I did read the reviews but only the good reviews came up on the search. I'm happy to say we will be going through the company I talked to. At least with other mortuary they would return my call. Good luck to those of you on searching for a funeral homes.

Disappointing is all I can say of my experience with Oahu Mortuary this time around. Prior to my Moms passing in late December, our family had used "Ultamate Cremations," a sister company of Oahu Mortuary on four separate occasions. They were great. Now that they are no longer operating we figured that Oahu would be just as good. Boy were we wrong. To begin with I had a very difficult time communicating with anyone at the office by phone. I had to call three separate times leaving messages each time and on separate days, with the gal who answers the phone to have someone call me back to discuss some important matters. They never did call back forcing me to phone a forth time only to get an attitude from the staff. The staff was belittling and passive aggressive making my concerns seem like they were trivial and without concern. Never once did they apologize for the lack of care, communication, or concern. They offered no assistance to help resolve their misscommings or resolve my concerns. They continued to be flippent and unruly. Secondly when I went to pick up my Mother's remains, they were unable to locate them for over 40 minutes. They were apparently in the little room to the right of the desk, when standing facing the desk in the trailer they use as an office. The reception lady who was suppose to present my Mom kept going into the room spending about 10 minutes in there, then she would come out check the computer or talk to someone in one of the other offices, only to dissapear back into the little room, repeating this over and over again. Finally after several tries she was able to fetch my Mom's remains, which did not even have a name tag, only a paper attached with a rubber band. Lastly and the icing on the cake was the lack of communication when obtaining my Mom's death certificates. During our initial meeting with the staff we ordered and paid for 20 certificates to be mailed to our home, giving them the address to the home. After 3 months -- 14 weeks we still had not received our death certificates, that began a whole crisis of multiple phone calls again. They finally told me that they had the death certificates physically there at the office. When I asked why they have not sent them they told me that I would have to pay some 40 dollars more to have them sent to me. The person then told me that they would not or could not send them until Friday, as Friday is the only day they do mailing. What kind of business only drops off and receives mail on a Friday. They also could not answer to why they never phoned any of us that the certificates were available for pickup. Dissapoining is all I can say about these guys. Their previous reputation is not up to their prior standards. Their rudness and snippet unprofessional attitude needs to be corrected. I have not given any names of the employees out of respect that I have about my own standards, but I will surly not be using Oahu Mortuary for any reason in the future. Hope this helps folks make a decision when selecting a Mortuary for their loved ones.
