My Grandmother has patronized this business twice in the past for my uncle and grandfather. A few other family members have also dealt with this funeral home. I’m not aware of their experiences so I will only speak of my Grandmother’s experiences and my family’s experience this past week as my Grandmother passed away. In 2016 my Grandmother didn’t think twice about doing business with Morgan’s Funeral & Cremation as she wanted to support a fellow Jehovah’s Witness which is who own and operate this establishment. Her experience wasn’t the best due to lack of communication when it came to her making arrangements for my Grandfather. Covid suddenly took my Grandmother away and left the family with funeral/cremation decisions. My Aunt decided to go along with Morgan’s Funeral & Cremation thinking things would go smoothly and Grandma would be in good hands. After all, they were very familiar with Grandma and would likely treat her and her family with dignity and respect. Right?....wrong. The 1st initial communication with them to tell them that Grandma passed away at home and they could pick her up went smoothly. They collected the information needed and then the lack of professionalism ensued. My Aunt was told to gather her siblings to sign some documents at a specific time. She did so, no one showed up to our home for this meeting. My aunt had to call Mrs. Morgan to see what happened. Next, no communication to discuss anything. My aunt was completely new to this process as far as handling the business of laying a loved one to rest. My aunt finally was able to speak with Mrs. Morgan only to find out that they were waiting for some documents to be signed. If she was waiting for my aunt why not call her?! Why not return the phone calls? So finally, it’s Wednesday, my Grandmother is supposed to have her Memorial service on Saturday and nothing has been done. We were told to drive to the funeral home to submit the paperwork and “someone” would meet us. This someone was a contact person appointed by Mrs. Morgan. She was late arriving but we were able to see her outside while we stayed in our vehicle. After documents were submitted, I reminded my aunt that she is supposed to be able to confirm the body of my Grandmother (as one of the required signatures acknowledged). My Aunt mentioned that to Mrs. Morgan and she had the audacity to say she would TEXT A PIC OF MY GRANDMOTHER’S BODY!! My aunt immediately refused that despicable option. It’s not respectable and extremely lacking in dignity. My Grandmother was an AMAZING woman! She deserved to be treated with dignity. Mrs. Morgan then agreed to meet with a member of the family that afternoon. She disclosed that she was dealing with diarrhea as if we cared to know. Again, lack of professionalism! Another worthy mention was the handling of the obituary. Mrs. Morgan advised my aunt to submit the narrative for the obituary. The narrative of the obituary along with pictures (a collage of my grandparents and all 6 of their kids) was submitted with a request to have some sunflowers on the obituary placed on it. She agreed and we waited for results. Sadly, another family member who is a Jehovah’s Witness received a copy of the drafted obituary (NOT my Aunt who has been the one handling all the business) and noticed that pics from the collage had been removed leaving only one pic of one of the 6 kids! Unacceptable! Why would someone do such a thing?! My aunt quickly called to discuss this with Mrs. Morgan and she made the excuse of not usually placing more than 3 pics on an obituary. Again, this is something that should have been communicated! The pics that were selected were important because it showed each of my grandparents children. Mrs. Morgan was able to fix this awful mistake and someone dropped off the obituaries the morning of my Grandmother’s service. If you’re looking for professionalism. Please look elsewhere. They made an already difficult situation far more stressful. Communication is everything and they lacked in both communication and professionalism.
