The loss of a loved one is tremendous and emotional. Allowing guns on or inside the premises by bereaved is a huge concern for me. Especially when it turns out a gun owner flashed his weapon at another person there. That was cowardly, senseless and immature. This could have easily, easily turned into a needless bloody melee. This is very disturbing. My nephew was memorialized at Long & Son recently. This was supposed to have been a peaceful and solemn occasion, not a confrontational one. The staff was not visibly present, comforting or attentive on the viewing day. Had their presence been more pronounced, this might have prevented such actions as the gun flashing. Also, it was posted inside that due to COVID concerns, everyone must wear a mask. That wasn't enforced. With all the gun violence in Charlotte, so little was done to ensure safety of those in attendance. If I can't feel safe to mourn/celebrate without fear, I definitely will not patronize or recommend them.

From the death of my son nearly 6 yrs ago 10/30/2016 to this day, everything is still a blur. But what I have not forgotten is the compassion shown by Long & Son. Uncertain how his dad from CA chose here but I'm glad he did. I recall getting the call to notify me the death certificates were ready for pick up and asking them to hold on to them that it was too much reality, so he offered to mail them and I declined because if they were lost in the mail it would be as devastating as him dying all over again. It took me 2 weeks to get the strength to go pick them up. I had 2 request with the preparation of his body... whatever that process is that flatten "our" lips please make sure his lips look the same and that they aren't all dried out looking, it was done perfectly, the other was he had freckles and it was the last time I'd see them in this life time so please do not apply so much make up that they could not be seen... it was done also just as I asked. My son was shipped back home to CA and unfortunately with time and travel there was a need to make some adjustments the lip request dad passed on but forgot about the freckles they were covered in heavy layered make up he went from looking like he was in an eternal sleep when he was with Long & Son to looking like a corpse at the services for his final resting place. I cannot recall any names of those I dealt with there, as I said it's all a blur still.... and the only reason it's coming to mind now is my God Son just passed 4/18, and his mom my best friend asked for the name and all I could recall was its5on Beaties Ford Road, so he's at another location and after reading that location reviews I pray that the family receives the better reviews of that service location because some of the responses from the owners was heart breaking and it forced me to google and find where my son body was prepared for his eternal rest and google maps said I'd been here 2 times in Nov 2016, I wish I'd googled sooner so I could've given the the actual name. Thank you Long & Son for your grace, dignity, respect shown, and accommodating my request that may seem unimportant to some but my son still looked like himself and that he was asleep and not deceased when they were done and that was what my soul needed. For that I thank you. I thought about using photo to show him alive and after but it really isn't appropriate when I thought about it even if it was to show how they matched him in life and the after life. Thank you again for the compassion and professionalism.

Long & Son really impressed me with how they handled my mother's (Zena Jenkins-Pratt) funeral arrangements. They are a class act from start to finish. Prices were reasonable, staff was professional and compassionate at the same time. Most importantly to me was the fact that my mother still looked like my mother when it was time to lay her to rest... thank you Long & Son!
