Please beware! Regretfully trusted the director with my mother’s care. They didn’t pick her body up from the hospital when they said they would and lied blaming it on the hospital staff(this was confirmed with security staff at hospital). She was gracious enough to work with me while I got the funds together for service payment since my mom didn’t have life insurance so I will give her that. I ended up getting more than the cost of the service which lead to a balance due to me that she still has not paid. She lied for months stating that she had filed with the state for burial funds but that proved to be false as well as I confirmed it with the state. We didn’t get to see my mother’s body until the day of the service because she claimed her building was too warm to bring my mom’s body out( I think honestly she just hadn’t started preparing my mom) Most funeral home I’ve been to allow at least family viewing the day before to make sure it is satisfactory. If you challenge or question her she gets very passive aggressive and nasty. She does a poor job at keeping records of conversations. I never received my mother’s death certificate that was promised as part of the service contract. My mom’s death notice did not include the picture in the newspaper that we had discussed because she submitted it incorrectly and stated she would pay to have it posted correctly on the anniversary of her death which was this August but didn’t make good on that either. If you choose this business be very sure you have EVERYTHING documented as she seemed to forget a lot and either hadn’t written them down or had them written in numerous different places when we would go over details of the service. My last time contacting her trying to get the money owed to me she got very rude and loud and disrespectful which is not how she was ever spoken to by me and told me she didn’t have to give me anything. So I will let the LORD deal with it. This post is just to make potential customers aware of my experience not to bash anyone.

So me and my family agree that we did not have a good experience with this funeral home. We believe that it was some sort of confusion on how much our loved one expenses should have been and when I asked the dr Eddie latimer for a itemized list of expenses we were not able to receive that list. And when she did finally get a list it went as follows 2000 I forgot what that was for +650 for embalming +400 for preparation + 400 for service this is how far we got because there was a caller which I believe to be her daughter calling over three times as dr Eddie was explaining the list to me and my family causing dr Eddie to pause three separate times and on the third time dr Eddie latimer miraculously remembers what she was previously explaining to my family about the itemized list was not the one she charged us for and that we picked out some package. So in turn me and my family never got a itemized list of what it cost to put our loved one in the ground we also find out at the end of our discussion that the caller which was her daughter is the supposed manager of lakeshoreby the way. She also insulted my intelligence by asking us was this over the 50dollars she said was owed to us but actually it was a question of 990 either way it should not matter if it was a question over a $1.00 I should of gotten a better answer than what we got we still don’t have a itemized list of the expenses nor do we know why it says something is included if it wasn’t. After trying to figure things out me n my family felt like we had no choice but to sign paperwork because dr Eddie was determined not to give us a itemized list of what we were being charged. Then hugs us and says her establishment wouldn’t beat us out of money but for some reason we feel like she did and we won’t ever know.

If you are looking for a respectable, intimate service (although they can accomodate a larger one as well) this is your place. Dr. Latimer owns and operates this establishment with genuine empathy & compassion. My loved one was sent off beautifully.
