The business was started in 1993 and is owned and operated by the Shellhouse family of Aiken, SC. Beginning in 2002, we acquired Rivers Funeral Home and it became Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home, Inc. For peace of mind of families who choose cremation, Shellhouse - Rivers Crematory offers Aiken's only on-site crematory at our East Pine Log Road location. Bethany Cemetery was purchased by the Shellhouse family in 2000. The cemetery was founded in 1892 and much of Aiken's history lies in the plots and tombs within the grounds. The state historical commission once wrote on the history of the site, "To walk through Bethany Cemetery is to walk through the history of Aiken."
