At a time when our family needed comfort and professionalism, Anderson-Hence Funeral Home managed to make a difficult situation even worse. From the very beginning, there was a complete lack of professionalism and empathy from the staff. If you respect your loved one or yourself for the matter, I highly encourage you to find another establishment. Upon receiving the news of my father's sudden passing, I sought recommendations from local family members for a suitable funeral home. Upon arriving at Andersons Funeral, I was greeted by a run-down establishment, devoid of any staff during regular business hours. Contacting the office number displayed outside, I was directed to another location about a mile and a half away. Hoping for an upgrade, I arrived at a residential area in front of a pink house. Doubt crept in as I called the office again to confirm the address. To my surprise, I was informed that the address was indeed correct, and the residence belonged to the business owner. Stepping inside, it became clear that this woman, dressed casually in jeans and a t-shirt, intended for me to arrange my father's final rites at her dining room table. I was utterly shocked by the lack of compassion and professionalism displayed. If this establishment treated me with such disregard and informality, I shuddered to think about their treatment of my father's remains. I immediately insisted on arranging a viewing, only to be told by the owner, "I don't handle that part." Using her cell phone, she called another person on speakerphone (without informing her that she was on speaker in front of the family) and relayed our request to view my father's remains. The person on the other end expressed frustration and explained that we would have to wait as she was running errands, and we would need to be quick because she had more errands to attend to. In our time of mourning, what we sought was professionalism and understanding. Rather than redirecting myself and my family to her residence, the owner should have arranged a later meeting time at her establishment. This business urgently requires customer service and empathy training. While I acknowledge that the owner and her staff may become desensitized to death, most of us are not. My father was and will forever remain a significant pillar in my life, not merely a business transaction. Needless to say, I promptly arranged for my father's remains to be picked up by a more reputable and professional establishment on that same day. I wish I could declare that the nightmare ended with Anderson-Hence Funeral Home, but unfortunately, that was not the case. While the other funeral home handled the transfer of my father's remains, it became evident that Anderson's staff failed to gather essential information from the medical examiner or police at the scene. This resulted in weeks of delays in obtaining copies of my father's death certificates. Because of the incompetence of this establishment, I faced significant hindrances in effectively and promptly addressing my father's financial affairs. I will be bringing my concerns to the Florida Board of Funeral, Cemetery and Consumer Services.
