I am writing to you with a heavy heart to share an unfortunate experience I had in February with San Jose Funeral Home. It is important to me that you are aware of the situation so that you can make informed decisions. I recently lost my mother, and during this difficult time, I encountered significant obstacles in saying my final goodbyes to her. One of my sisters made arrangements with the funeral home and explicitly instructed them not to allow me to see my mother. Despite my biological relationship with my mother, the funeral home honored my sister's wishes without verifying legal documents. As a result, I was denied the opportunity to pay my respects and say my farewells to my beloved mother. This heartbreaking ordeal forced me to take legal action to gain the right to see my own mother. I had to retain an attorney and obtain a court order granting me permission to visit her. The unnecessary stress, pain, and financial burden this caused me are immeasurable. It is deeply troubling that San Jose Funeral Home prioritized one family member's instructions over the wishes of my mother's biological daughter. Their lack of sensitivity and disregard for the bonds of family during such a sensitive time is truly disheartening. I share this with you not out of spite, but out of a sincere desire to prevent anyone else from experiencing a similar situation. Therefore, I urge you to consider alternative funeral homes should the need arise.

It has taken me two months to write this review because I couldn’t find a way to put into words the gratitude that I have for the people at San Jose Funeral home, most of all Victor. We have used this funeral home in the past, and have always been treated with respect, kindness, sincerity, and patience in our hardest of times. Two months ago, I experienced the hardest thing I pray I will ever have to experience, the loss of my brother. My brother and I were two halves of one whole, and when my other half fell to sleep one night, never to see me again, there was no doubt in my mind who I should reach out to provide the services. Victor made sure that he accommodated my schedule. He helped me make arrangements for my brother’s services, even when outside vendors were necessary to facilitate his final services. My brother was a large man, and he was disabled. He had lost so much in the way of his life before his death, and one small token he held onto, one small act of humanity that meant the world to him, was having his long hair washed. Because I no longer live in El Paso, there were 3 days before I was able to see him, and because of his size, I was informed that his body was not in the best position to be viewed. Despite this, Victor and his team provided my brother with his one last act of dignity, a bath, clean hair, and the best efforts with makeup, which ensured that the last time I saw the man I loved more than life, I did so with full confidence that he was at peace. There are no words to fully describe what this act of dignity, humanity, and kindness have meant to me and my family, what they will always mean to us. Instead, I’ll leave you with this, on the hardest day of your life, when the world seems to stop, and it comes time for the ones you love to leave, please ensure that you provide your loved ones one last act of kindness and choose San Jose Funeral Home. There is no where else your family will be treated like family, and this is the best place for their last stop before they go to their final resting place.
