My mother passed away at my sisters home in Buford, GA 175 miles from the cemetery in Soperton, GA. But my mother wanted to be buried here, near her parents. There was only one funeral home in Soperton that my relatives ever talked about - Sammons Funeral Home. So my sister called and was notified that they would come and pick her up ASAP. I was vacationing at Daytona Beach with a travel trailer and headed north the next morning to meet with my sister and Phillip Byrd for a couple of hours. He asked us questions and gave us time to make decisions. When we were unsure, he offered suggestions. He got most of the information from us that he needed. At the funeral home, we saw a chapel with an altar and a piano, and decided to have the funeral there. But we didn’t know anyone around there, so in the days following, Phillip found a pastor and a pianist for us. We continued to text and email about little details as needed until the day before the funeral to make sure that all would go according to plan. And, the funeral proceeded very smoothly, thanks to Phillip’s guidance, planning and organizational skills. The chapel was perfect and the pastor and pianist were wonderful. After the graveside service was finished, we stayed to watch the casket lowered. Once again, Phillip educated us every step of the way.
