McNeil’s Funeral Home went above and beyond in helping our family with the passing of our Mother. Johnny Bland made himself available 24/7 with any questions or concerns we had. Everything was explained clearly with no details left out. They made a difficult time as easy as it could possibly be.
This place is a den of vipers and they have an unfortunate hold on bereaved families in Canadian Co. My mother wanted to donate any viable organs and then be cremated, so when she passed, unexpectedly, we called McNeil’s because they were who my family always called. They wanted THOUSANDS simply to cremate my mother’s body. No special preparations or urn. Sticker shock sent me looking for another solution, and I found a mortuary that would only charge $945, so we went with them. Then Johnny McNeil himself called me wanting to “arrange the transfer” of my mother’s body to the other funeral home (which he no doubt would charge hundreds for), except that McNeil’s NEVER picked her body up from the morgue. She was with Life Share for organ and tissue harvesting. I’ll never believe that he didn’t know that, but I do believe he was prepared to take me for whatever he could get. When I pointed that out to him, he blustered a little and said, “well okay we will just back out of this then.” I know it feels gross to comparison shop when you’ve just lost someone, but being taken advantage of by people preying on your vulnerability is worse by far.
I never thought I would be in a position to write a review of a funeral home at 38 years old, but here we are. I am from San Diego & had to come to Oklahoma to help my grieving little sister, as she unexpectedly lost my niece at only 8 years old. Brandon, Johnny, & Karen were there for my family, every step of the way. No one wants to think about losing a child or the heartache that goes with it. McNeils went out of their way to work with my family, most of whom are from out of town. They allowed us time to celebrate the young life of Amelia & were there for us when we needed guidance. Thank you for being there for us in our darkest moment.
From the moment I asked the hospital to contact McNeil’s about caring for my deceased husband they took care of me and our family. With such kindness and welcome they walked us through the impossible process of making hard decisions in our most tender grief. Every random phone call has been met with a warm hello and the feeling of total safe space to ask the random and uncomfortable questions. They will care for your loved one with utter professionalism and love you like you’re family!
I cannot express how grateful we are for Brad and the entire McNeil's staff. My father-in-law passed somewhat unexpectedly and we were not totally prepared. Brad walked us through the entire funeral process, helped us in planning a funeral and graveside service in 2 different cities. We felt comforted and appreciated and supported the entire time. Communication was open at all times and we consider the entire group part of our extended family now. They also facilitated the stone through Arnold's in El Reno- and it was an perfection! I did my personal due-diligence and approved all layouts and sizing with Brad at McNeils. We sent proofs back and forth A LOT of times and he never got upset about all the small changes. He contacted Arnold's and they made changes without hesitation. I was given a final proof with the exact look and dimensions. They made a very difficult time seem so much easier and I even felt they took the burdens off the family so we could celebrate our loved one without worry. I HIGHLY recommend this company and would give them 20 stars if I could!!!!!
