On the morning when you wake up and find your mother has passed, and the universe is crashing around you, and you're saying your last goodbye... you hope for someone like Tommy, from Lewis Funeral Chapel, to be the one coming to take her away. I've never felt more "seen" by another human being. He obviously understands the gravity of this responsibility. I was heartbroken, but I tried to maintain my composure. Tommy saw right through all that and his genuine sympathy and the warmth in his voice as he apologized for my loss, offered so much comfort and reassurance, and I am so grateful to him for that.

My stepdad passed away yesterday and when we went in today at our scheduled time we were turned away and asked to come back in at 3pm because of someone else’s unexpected lost. We tried being gracious and understand until the funeral director told my mother (who lost her partner of 13+ years YESTERDAY) to “pray for that woman she’s facing such a tragedy so young” like my mother is not experiencing the same thing. When we do finally get back at 3pm the funeral director has her ringer on full volume and walks out of the room 3+ times and I hear her talking to someone else regarding others loses like we aren’t here trying to sort out our own. Then had the audacity to even check her text messages and joke about it! We were not laughing. When we tried bringing up how utterly unprofessional she was being she took ANOTHER call and walked out in the middle of us speaking with her. She tried charging my mom over $400 despite the fact we were told she would receive aide and she said “it never covers the whole thing” but once her boss was on the phone he told us it would be all covered and she just crossed out the $405 she had written. What would have happened if her boss had not been on the call at that moment? She almost took our cards when we don’t really have that kind of money. She was extremely unprofessional the entire time, didn’t know what she was doing and made this already difficult process so much harder. Her boss, Tommy I believe, sounded very nice and offered the most hospitality we got out of the entire thing and was the only good part of this process so thank you Tommy but obviously your funeral directors need more training in how to handle those in grief if this is how they treat those in their worst times.

Tommy, Lynette and the entire Lewis Funeral Chapel team showed respect and professionalism from the beginning to the end giving us peace of mind and closure. They help you through the entire process of loss, mourning and most important… celebrating your loved ones life with the dignity that they deserve.
