Just over one year ago- a couple of weeks before Easter, I became a widow. it was a year that was supposed to be one marked with happy milestones: my 10th Anniversary, which came a few short weeks after my husband's death, and my 50th birthday, the speeding train my husband had been teasing me about since his flew past him 4 years before his untimely death. I am a good judge of character and I've had a lot of experience with death in a medical career which started at age 16, when I started volunteering for the Springfield Ambulance Corps. Michael Kovacs was once of my EMS colleagues in those early days, and I always remembered him as a compassionate, warm and gentle person... perfect for taking the reigns of the family business. Though I didn't want to think too long about it, I always knew who I would turn to when I lost a loved one. The first time I needed to make that call was when I needed to have the remains of my beloved dog removed from my home when she died unexpectedly. My fur-baby was handled and treated as the "child" she was to me and my husband. I never imagined my next phone call would be for my husband almost 14 months later. Unfortunately, I have been to too way too many funerals in the past few years. I've been to some done nicely, a true celebration of the life of a loved one, and others where the lack of a good funeral director was painfully evident. I realized that it added so much more strain to the unfortunate family trying to cope with the loss of a loved one, financial burdens of a funeral, and little guidance through a difficult process. I have counted my blessings on many occasions when I think back to how Kovacs funeral home helped me through my early days of becoming a widow... the prolonged wait for church availability due Easter would have been intolerable if it was not for Michael Kovacs. In a time where my brain was foggy from little sleep, I never needed to worry about the planning of the service or inurnment.
