If only I could give zero stars.. A grieving daughter … …should not be forced to help with moving her fathers body at time of pick up. ….should not be forced to spend more time at the funeral home dealing with an incompetent due real director in the days prior to the service than at home taking care of her mother. … should not spend an entire day locating out of date technical equipment in order have photos played during the service. A grieving wife should not be forced to return to the funeral home after the service multiple times for collection of various items when one trip would have sufficed had the funeral director been organized and done her job. Your loved ones REMAINS SHOULD NOT SIT IN A DRAWER/ON A SHELF FOR 42 DAYS BEFORE THE FUNERAL HOME DIRECTOR NOTIFIES THE FAMILY the ashes are ready to come home. To be clear, Mrs Thomas’ staff were amazing, kind people who were eager to help but seem to have their hands tied unless she became involved. It was specifically Mrs Thomas’ involvement which was to the detriment of my families experience at every turn. I don’t take any satisfaction in posting such a negative and detailed review but when your family is at it’s most vulnerable, this is not a funeral director who is going to ease your burden and take care of the arrangements for you accurately. Details of my families experience you should know before choosing J Hoyt Thomas: 1. A single attendant was sent to our home to pick up my fathers body. This resulted in family members being forced to assist. No wife or daughter should be put into this position. 2. No ability to display photos or a video during the service other than on a maybe 50” TV wheeled into the chapel. 3. No ability to handle audio or video files other than a burned CD/DVD. Try finding CDs/DVDs, a DVD player or a DVD burner in 2022. Best of luck. 4. In addition to the above issue with the music and video file, Mrs Thomas’ inability to repeat the simple service details accurately or keep them organized, resulted three in-person visits and numerous phone calls to firm up basic requirements in the days prior to the service. 5. There was no organization at visitation. The receiving line discussed was not followed and was non-existent. My family had to divide in order to receive people filtering in from three entry points. My sister and I could not stand with our mother when she needed us most and people who attended, later reported the inability to reach a family member to give condolences. 6. My father was cremated with no graveside service. Regardless, at the conclusion of the service Mrs Thomas ushered my family outdoors into the pouring rain and cold then directed the full chapel everyone to follow. There was not enough room underneath the small awning causing a very crowded situation with no direction. My family felt bombarded and claustrophobic with so many people pushed into a small area when what we needed was a few minutes alone to gather ourselves and take a breath before greeting friends and loved ones. 7. At the initial meeting with Mrs Thomas, we were told my fathers remains may not be in house by his service date of Feb 21st and if so, an a empty urn would be used. We were not contacted until March 30th that his remains were ready to be picked up. Upon receiving, the paperwork noted his remains were delivered to the funeral home February 18th. PRIOR TO THE SERVICE and 42 days prior to the family being notified. I can only assume my dads ashes sat in a drawer or on a shelf the entire time and no one noticed. Yesterday I escorted my mother to pick up them up only to witness pain and tears all over again when they could have been preset at the service and brought home the same day.
