I attended a funeral there for a loved one this week. The staff was caring, supportive, and available to us. We appreciate the fine job they did to help in so many ways.

Holcombe Brothers we put money over serving yoir needs and will let your loved one linger in the back until either pay our “exorbitant prices” or they can decompose in the freezer doesn’t matter to us be we don’t do anything until payment is rendered”! So UNLESS YOU HAVE THE MONEY UP FRONT TO BURY A LOVED ONE the average cost being $7,000-$13,000 (anyone reading this….HOLCOMBE BROTHERS IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE in the Yancey County area) they let you go through the exhausting process of making sure your loved one has a proper send off and after all the “t’s” are crossed and “i’s” dotted they tell you they will be happy to do all this “but where is our money?” Because we’re not doing anything until we have the money in hand and it’s paid in full!!! You may find this shocking…..I did to…..what person in their 30’s has the money laying around to bury a parent who died unexpectedly??? I mean you and your family are grieving and going through so much and then this place has the audacity to say “pay up or go elsewhere it doesn’t matter to them”! I am APPALLED AT THAT A BUSINESS IN THE DEATH CARE INDUSTRY CAN BE SO CRUEL!!!! How would one of the employees at that establishment feel if they were In decedents families shoes and they go told that?!? As I said it’s very sad, disgusting and just disrespectful to do that to a family!!! Why don’t they answer the phone “Thank you for calling Holcombe Brothers where we will bury you or your loved one ONLY IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY UP FRONT!” Again I am just disgusted and disappointed in an establishment that’s been around as long as this place has been!!!! May I suggest Yancey Funeral Service where the family comes first and you can have a payment plan established!!!! I implore the folks of Yancey County to take their business elsewhere!!!!

Recently came back to my hometown for an unfortunate loss in the family. This place is in serious need of a facelift. The ceiling tiles were look terribly stained and warped from leaks in numerous spots. Overheard a family member literally call it embarrassing. It's unfortunate really. Beautiful historic place, just not being kept up well it seems. 🤷🏻‍♂️😔
