Lanny, Laura, and staff; I write this, 6 months after the passing of my beloved boyfriend, who passed away at barely 58 years old. It was a complete and total shock, that I am still processing (it's a continual, day by day, baby step-by-baby step kind of deal). Harrelson Funeral Home took great care of all of us, gently guiding Jim's family in making the difficult planning decisions, and ultimately, planning his memorial service- which was as lovely as it possibly could be. Jim's brother in law, who shared a home with him in Forest City, recommended Laura, Lanny and the team at Harrelson, as they had served his family many times, always with tender care and compassion. It was imperative that his family could rely on your expertise, as most of us were from out of town. You pulled everything together in just days, and the experience, although devastating, was made as beautiful as it possibly could be. In addition, I want to express my gratitude for the "extra care" that they extended to me this past week. I had a necklace with Jim's ashes (also beautiful), and I broke it- twice, with it getting 'caught' when I leaned over to get some items and snapped (thankfully, I was able to keep all of the pieces, including the little heart that was filled with my beloved's ashes). I paid $50 to solder it the first time, and decided (the second time!) to purchase a new chain, instead of re-repairing the necklace a second time, as it was less expensive to just buy a new chain, rather than have the jewelry store fix it again. I called Laura to ask the length and diameter of the chain, so that I could try to find a close match. Well, she talked with Lanny, and, the next thing you know, Lanny went into the back room, found the same necklace- and shipped it out to my home address in Charlotte! When Laura called me back- it was already in the mail! They wouldn't even let me pay them for it- or for the shipping, although I asked to do so! Acts of kindness like this are almost unheard of in this world today. I am incredibly grateful for their tender care and compassion. During these mostly dark days of grieving- they have given me a gift and a shining ray of hope. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. Losing my mother turned my world upside down. I had no clue where to turn or how to begin to plan a funeral. From my first call to Harrelsons, I knew I was in good hands. Lanny was able to talk with me and make my appointment even through all of my crying over the phone. Once I arrived, I could sense the genuine compassion and empathy and it was very comforting. He walked me through every step of arrangements and planned a beautiful service. Lanny is a blessing to this earth! I cannot thank him enough!
