I wish to express my gratitude to the staff at Carolina Mortuary Service and Cremation for providing compassionate service for my father who passed away on Saturday. They were kind and respectful when coming to his home following his death and answering the questions I had. It was a difficult time which they understood and made easier. I would recommend Carolina Mortuary Service to anyone looking for funeral home. My heartfelt thanks to all who work there and assisted me during such a challenging time.

Fred and Ben could have not been more helpful to me during the transition of my love one . Ben went out of his way to arrive at our home in a timely manner and very knowledgeable about the process. I would like to preface with the statement that if I could leave 0 stars I would. I am utterly appalled by the disgraceful conduct of Fred E Handsel and his funeral home. My family and I trusted this business during one of the most vulnerable times of our lives, and instead of receiving the compassion and respect we deserved, we were met with deceit and unprofessionalism. Fred E Handsel’s response to my mother’s (Felicia C.) review is not only a blatant lie but a clear attempt to deflect responsibility. His claim that my father made statements that he did not, and his attempt to paint my mother as unreasonable, is nothing short of gaslighting. This is unacceptable and deeply hurtful. If this business truly provided the stellar service Mr. Handsel claims, their prices would reflect that level of care. I do not even fully understand why this statement was made, when the price was not ever an issue. The low cost we encountered I fully believe is a clear indicative of the poor service we received. The suggestion that higher prices is a disgraceful excuse and reveals the true nature of his operations. Mr. Handsel’s reprimand for contacting him outside of business hours is outrageous. When a business deals with sensitive matters like death, it is their responsibility to ensure proper communication channels are available, including a business telephone with an answering machine. This number was provided to my mother. It is wholly inappropriate to scold grieving customers for seeking the information they were promised and did not receive within a timely manner. In addition to your statement about "inappropriate hours" the call was made at 7:00 pm and not 10:00pm or midnight. We chose this funeral home to support a small, BIPOC, veteran owned business with my grandfather being a Vietnam Veteran. Plus, the treatment you provided before funds were transferred was really nice, patient, and welcoming, but given the false advertising and the deplorable treatment we received after we paid, we quickly learned how much we deeply regretted our decision. We will not recommend this business to anyone. It’s shocking and disheartening to see a business in such a crucial industry treating customers with such blatant disrespect. This is not just about poor service; it’s about a lack of basic human decency. No one should have to endure this level of disregard and dishonesty, especially when they are grieving the loss of a loved one. It is beyond disappointing to see someone in this field mishandle their responsibilities and then blame their customers for their own failures.
