The funeral directors at Brosh Chapel are responsible for implementing the wishes of families in planning a meaningful funeral service for their loved one. The role of the funeral director is that of a caregiver and administrator. Their responsibilities include making arrangements for the transportation of the body, meeting with the family of the deceased to plan the visitation and funeral service, preparing the deceased for the visitation and funeral service, completing necessary paperwork, notifying local and out-of town newspapers of obituary information, as well as performing any additional services requested by the family. Our funeral directors continue to serve families after the funeral service by assisting them with insurance and/or veterans claims or providing grief support resources to assist the family in making a life transition without their loved one. Our competent staff is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to serve the community.

Matt Linn, unprecedented times with Covid-19 and the sudden unexpected death in the family of Tim Beranek. Now more than ever, we needed expert guidance from a funeral director through these tough times. Brosh failed to provide this comfort in many ways. 1. Made Hometown Solon chapel unavailable 2. Not comforting on initial visit. 3. On the day of the memorial, CR chapel parking lot had 10-20 Hy-Vee employee cars occupying spaces. 4. When arrived, no guestbook ready, inadequate stands for flowers, gave no guidance and had to ask for a table to setup family memories, had to ask for memorial gift envelopes. 5. One employee only working during the service, who gave the impression her only job was to monitor the 10-person in the parlor law, and made it clear that the chapel will FINE the family if the rule was broken. 6. Brosh should have had a second support staff greeting at the front door explaining the Covid procedures with guidance on where to wait, instead, the one only employee commenting that you can't wait in the parlor. Guest waited on the rear outdoor patio for guidance on viewing, but not once did the one staff appear on the rear patio. 7. The rear outdoor patio is a great area if spring cleanup would have been done and patio tables and chairs had been cleaned. 8. After the service, employee #2 showed up in a t-shirt and baseball cap to shut down the live feed, and the family members were left to pack up the memorials in front of the open casket. What funeral home does that? Our family should have been comforted by working with Brosh, instead only more anguish in very troubling times. This was my 4th family funeral in the last several months and I left your facility dumbfounded by your lack of compassion. Jeff Moore

Before I begin, please note that this review has NOTHING to do with COVID-19 and regulations set in place due to the pandemic. Also, please note that these issues were discussed in person and rather than listen to honest criticism, excuses were made. My father died tragically and extremely unexpectedly. We decided to call the local, hometown funeral home. We were told “we’re holding all of our meetings in Cedar Rapids right now, is that okay?” And of course, we could make that work, for a meeting. Upon arrival, we were greeted and began discussing services and the limitations due to the pandemic. Then I asked for clarification that these services would be provided in Solon, our hometown. Only to be told that no services are being offered there at this time. (This should have been made clear in the initial phone call, rather than only asking us to hold a meeting in Cedar Rapids). Upon arrival for my father’s visitation: -only two staff members were present. -no guest book out. (We had to ask for one) -no memorial envelopes or pens were available. During the visitation: -only one staff member present, to strictly adhere to group size regulations (again, this is a reality of our time) but where was the support staff? Someone to hold the door open, see the family’s needs? At the end of the visitation, staff entered the room in a T-shirt and baseball cap to end the livestream. So incredibly disrespectful! We began to remove the memorabilia from the casket and flowers, plants etc. Again, no support staff to assist. The casket was left open. We repeatedly made phone calls with questions, asked for different items (clip of hair, fingerprints) over and over. When we were asked for feedback, these areas of concern were shared & met with excuses. What was already the most stressful, exhausting and horrific experience of our lives... became exponentially worse due to the lack of professionalism from Brosh Chapel.
