My parents chose Peek Funeral Home since my grandparents passed away 20 years ago. They wanted the most convenience location for their guests to visit them the last time. I thought this was their great choice. No matter how well we prepared mentally, it was still overwhelmed and definitely we felt clueless. Thanks to Linda, extremely gentle, caring, helpful, and with thorough direction from Sean Hahad, we couldn't ask anything more. We were so grateful of their professionalism, dedication. Especially Hieu, Long, Sonny, Tuy, Huy, Nghiep, Dung, Triet... they went out of their way to make the most memorable moments for our family. I highly recommend Peek Funeral Home. But more important, I highly recommend buying a pre-arrange package from Kim Oanh, you lock the discount price, prevent inflation, you know exactly what you get, and you make your loved ones' life much simpler.
Anthony Dang was great to assist with all your needed for funeral plan in the future.
I try to find my box number that I bought 10 years ago. They keep sending me to another one, when simple database can find out very fast. In this kind of time, when I can find out everything by google it, they are still in the stone age.
Peek Funeral fell short on some major areas, which I outline below. But because it also fulfilled key aspects of planning a Vietnamese funeral in a non-flakey, mostly compassionate, and earnest manner, I steer toward 4 stars rather than 3 stars, and outline serious feedback I hope they think about improving on. I sincerely hope that operations, professionalism, and customer service improve so that this entity can be even better, as it plays host to a key Vietnamese immigrant population of the entire world outside of Vietnam. (+) Well-versed in Vietnamese Buddhist traditions for planning a ceremony. Worked well with the temple monks we worked with for prayers during the service. Provided us with the starting point/outline of the day-of service schedule. But then it fell on the monks to fill our day and give us a special memorial just like the ones in Vietnam - so the credit really goes to our temple's monks rather than Peek Funeral for the programming body and content. (+) Respectful of the deceased's body during the services/viewing and during the burial. Very much appreciated. (+) Followed all directions for dressing the body - hair and clothes. (+) Coordination of and communications to transport the body after passing was timely, smooth, professional, and respectful. All the business-as-usual paperwork given to family was done in a very compassionate way. Timely setup of appointment to begin funeral planning the day immediately after passing. Again, done in a very compassionate and flexible manner. Much appreciated. (-) Expected more guidance during the day-of funeral, including letting the family and guests know where to go, transitioning from viewing to procession to the burial plot. This was something the staff said they would be doing (some sense of directing), so our family entrusted them in this, but on the day of, there was little initiative. Had we known we'd need some type of orchestrator / MC for the entire day, we would have looked for and hired someone to help rather than defaulting this on the grieving family members who would have rather just take in the ceremonies without the need to balance logistics and direction-giving. Especially for staff who see these ceremonies over and over again, versus a family going through their first loss. (-) Family must proactively and ask often, prior to the funeral, for details about the day-of funeral details, e.g., how many pallbearers, which procession items to carry (fruit, candles, flowers, etc.), what the lineup even looks like (they have a PDF handout they can send if you ask). Otherwise, it would have been a cold run on the day-of without any direction from staff (see above point). You have to run a rehearsal in your mind before the actual funeral, and think of questions and ask them, so you clarify everything, or else the day-of is going to be a complete dry-run. If there is no staff support on the day-of, that's fine, but clarify that with clients and do not make false promises about staff support when planning the funeral with them. (-) Used car salesman-like tactics, language, and stress creation to sell tombstone during the day immediately after passing, and the following weeks, was very much not appreciated, especially during biggest moments of stress right after a passing. All other sales / paperwork (burial internment rights, services, casket) were fine - communicated in a steady, compassionate way. But the staff member dealing with tombstone (post-burial) was just not the best and we avoided communications with him due to the unneeded stress it created. (-) Staff completely dropped the ball on reporting the death to SSA, despite numerous assurances that this had been done. Had I not checked the work and called SSA myself to verify, I would not have discovered this. If this service is not offered, that's fine, but don't say it's done when it's not.
My father in law was buried in Peek Funeral Home. While I was not involved in the arrangements, everybody was telling that the arrangements were extremely smooth. The place is nice, everybody extremely professional, tactful, and the service was like we wished it would be, with all details taken care of. After the funeral I had additional interactions with Mimi, to post memories written in another language. Mimi was extremely fast to respond and extremely reliable. I sincerely appreciated her help.
