I was treated with the up most respect. They allowed me to view their facility WITHOUT an appointment! The faculty was immaculate! I trust them them to care for my family members and myself! They even put in the contract what truly happens, NOT like Brewer & Sons who hinds information you need to know! You can truly trust Merritt Funeral Home. The staff was compassionate and extremely professional! They are NOT strictly about business!
The owner shot my friends dog yesterday! She is balling her eyes out. The vet was unable to save him, do to the buckshot piercing his heart. Not one unfriendly bone in his body! Never one incident of aggression in his whole life!!!! Sweetest dog you could ever meet! Was a purebreed mini german pointer. The pup dug a whole under the fence yesterday and wondered into the neighbors yard. (My friend didnt know her fence wasnt dug down deep enough). Shooting an animal and part of the family whose just sniffing the ground ....EVil IS AS EVIL DOES!!!! I would not trust this man with my loved one.
My experience with cremation services for my mom with Merritt have been terrible. The initial experience on 12/5 the day my passed away was comforting the disappointment began two days later. At the time I arranged the cremation I was not prepared to write an obituary so Elaine told me I could email it to her. On Wednesday 12/7 I emailed the obituary. I called 3 seperate times requesting either a return call or simple response confirming the receipt of the obituary. I suppose I should have just thought about checking their website for the presence of her obituary but I was also spending every day at that time in the hospital with my grandmother who lost her battle on 12/12 and passed away. Elaine never returned my call. On 12/17 the secretary called to tell me my mom's death certificates were ready for pickup. I asked when I could pickup her remains. I was told her body was not picked up by the crematory until 12/14 "due to the delay with the Coroner." On 12/23the secretary called again to let me know i could pickup her remains. Due to the holiday I confirmed the hours they were open on Christmas eve. They were supposed to close at 2:30. I arrived at the funeral home at 12:45 Christmas eve and they were closed. I honestly don't have words to describe the additional sadness working with this funeral home has caused me.
I used Merritt Funeral to arrange the transfer of my Mother from Spring Hill to North Carolina. The care and services prior to her transfer were not handled as promised. Management at Merritt denied any responsibility and were rude, dismissive and unapologetic. I feel they disrespected my Mother. I would not recommend this company and will tell as many people as possible about my awful experience. I am thankful for the staff of the Miller Funeral Home in North Carolina for making things right with Mom as well as their kindness and compassion.
My uncle passed away at home and was transferred to Merritt's Brooksville, FL location by the local authorities. In attempting to try to help my mom manage his affairs from 1000 miles away, I was treated very rudely. They were less than helpful when we asked for details about timelines, and if there was anyway to speed the process to limit the amount of time my mom would need to spend away from home. When we ultimately chose to move my uncle's body to another funeral home, the director called my mom to tell her that I was "nasty" with him and that we needed to have the new home pick up his body that very day. The new home was happy to accommodate that, but Merritt "closed too early" for them to get there in time. I was truly worried about the possibility they would mis-handle my uncle's body. Beware of this place. At a time when you're grieving, these are the last people you'll want to be dealing with.
