Sax-Tiedemann gives exceptional service … Steve and his staff are amazing and give caring service at all times. Thank you to Tim who I must have called too many times to add to memorial , you were nothing but professional With my tweets & corrections… Everyone helped in a bad time make it just a little bit easier in our time of sorrow. I myself have come to Sax-Tiedemann 3 times in this past year and was shown so much respect during our time of need. Thank you from our hearts. We will always come to you when we need the BEST

Upon arriving at Sax-Tiedemann Funeral Home & Crematorium, I immediately felt unwelcome, as if my presence as a person of color was out of place. The atmosphere was cold and uninviting, and it seemed they had little experience or willingness to help someone like me. When I began to cry, overwhelmed by the reason I was there, only then did their demeanor soften slightly, showing a late and minimal amount of care and compassion. Throughout the process, Tim was the most kind and understanding of all the funeral directors. He always displayed a high ethos of care and assured me that they would support me and that I didn't need to worry about anything. I had shared with him that I didn't want to know the sex of my baby, and navigating this part of the process alone was incredibly difficult. However, any time I wasn't dealing with Tim, my experience was subpar. Kevin, in particular, over-shared information and lacked the skill to be empathetic. Additionally, they requested unnecessary information that forced me to involve others, creating an extra burden during an already difficult time. This additional layer was something I wish I didn't have to manage, especially since it turned out they didn't even need the information. They told me that once I submitted the paperwork for my child to be released from the hospital, they would pick up the body, typically on Wednesdays. However, they delayed the pickup without informing me, prioritizing another family to reduce their trips. Days passed, and I hadn't heard anything, so I called, only to find out they had pushed back my pickup. I was later contacted by a social worker from Northwestern, puzzled because they should have already connected with the funeral home. When the social worker called them to check, they casually responded that they'd go either later that evening or the next day. That night, they finally picked up my baby, but I received no call to confirm it; I had to reach out to them myself. Their responses were so matter-of-fact, likely because I was constantly calling to stay informed. In the end, they advised me against viewing the body, claiming it wasn't in good condition. However, I'm left wondering if my baby's condition was always that way or if it worsened because of the funeral home's delays. I'll never know. To make matters worse, despite my explicit request not to know the gender of my deceased child, Kevin revealed it without hesitation. When I expressed that I wasn't supposed to know, the response was a nonchalant, 'I'm sorry,' with no real empathy or understanding. Being nearly 1 month in, I called and emailed for a status update, just to be told my baby was ready. I told Kevin I was never made aware and he said, he assumed someone called. #Careless Given my experience, I cannot recommend Sax-Tiedemann Funeral Home & Crematorium to anyone, especially people of color or those seeking cremation services. They appeared indifferent to my grief and seemed to take their time managing everything as if they didn't understand or care about the urgency and emotional weight of the situation. To be fair, before posting this, I shared all of the aforementioned with Tim and let him know my plans to write a review regarding my experience. He apologized and didn't charge me a dime (though I insisted on still paying). I hope the person reading this found it helpful... and to the funeral home, my hope is that you read this review and do better. Sincerely, Dr. Phillips

My Daughter’s service was done here at Sax-Tiedemann and I have no words to express how thankful I am with all the help provided by the family members who work there. They go beyond their work and also feel your pain. I recommend this funeral home 100%. Thank you.
