I would not recommend evergreen memorial chapel after a loved one’s passing. The entire experience was very impersonal and rushed. We had let the funeral home know prior to arrival that we had wanted to have a final viewing with my brother so that the family could say goodbye, Doug, the staff member we were working with, was late to the meeting time that he set for us, and did not have anything ready once he arrived. Doug then proceeded to tell us that he had several of “these” a day and that we would have to come back for a viewing later once he had time to get things ready, “these” being people that had passed. I understand that evergreen is a business, but you think the staff would have a little bit more compassion for the heartbreaking situation that their customers are in. So unless you want to be rushed through your grieving process with un compassionate staff member, I would look elsewhere.
I went to a service at Evergreen Memorial Chapel last week and I am appalled at the way the staff treated the family of the deceased. The family was mourning the loss of their child and the funeral home director pulled them out of the service multiple times to have them sign paperwork. Multiple times DURING the service! They were unable to connect with loved ones and be supported during this time. I'm unsure why the director didn't ask them to come in prior to the service or ask them to stay afterwards, but it was completely inappropriate and even inhumane the way they treated the family. I reached out to Janssen's via their website first in hopes that they would acknowledge their mistake and vow to do better, but they didn't take the time to even acknowledge that. The icing on the cake of how awful this place is/was?! During the viewing, a horrid piano-rendition (of what I assume was supposed to be peaceful spa-like music) was playing and I realized it was a muzak version of "I want it that way" by the Backstreet Boys. If the lack of empathy doesn't get you, maybe the lack of taste will. Steer clear!
Jordan was amazing! Along with the rest of the staff. It was extremely hard losing my mom. Except they helped a lot. Highly recommend them.
Incredible and caring staff. During our most darkest of days losing a loved one, Evergreen was so understanding. The staff are very qualified and professional. While they were performing the necessary task at hand, they never lost sight of the fact that they were dealing with human beings. Statements like “take all the time you need”.. While having meetings and discussions. They even reached out to us a few times well after the services to just check up on the family and offer their kind thoughts and prayers.
If I could give 0 stars I would except for the kindness of their staff member, Anna who remained pleasant and accommodating while the rest of her team was anything but after the initial phone call to set up arrangements. Things went south right after the initial phone call when they failed to take down my phone number properly even after I repeated it several times. Save for Anna things went from bad to worse to just get this over with. If you’re looking for a funeral home that treats the death of a loved one as a big business- you’ve found your place. If you’re looking for kindness, compassion and a team that is communicative right from the start- go elsewhere. Bummer because I know my deceased loved one respected Mr. Janssen as a neighbor and acquaintance. I would have loved to had the opportunity to feel the same way about his business.
